Review:

Myth: 5/5

This book shows the world what Aelin Galathynius’s court could be. All those who spend any time with them know that this is a court that could change the world. Those that see their flex of power fear them. Aelin is preparing for war. The enemy is known and she knows what it must take to banish him, though plenty of meddlesome spirits and gods want to give her pointers, she works tirelessly to give this world a fighting chance.

The story is beautiful and heartbreaking, one of those stories where so much comes together in the final chapters and definitely leaves you on a cliffhanger (thankfully the series is complete at this point), but the story to get there was so worth it, even to those having to pay the price.

This book has the biggest romance arc for multiple character sets and they are wonderful, but somehow they just pale in comparison to Aelin’s story and task.

Magic: 5/5

Throughout this book, we finally see what Aelin can do. It is a power to be weathered, but not without it’s costs. While Aelin masters her power, we also get to see Dorian starting to actually make sense of his. He’s no longer trying to hide it, or push it down, but control it and use it.

I also just love the magical court and travel companions that assemble around Aelin. It’s like her power draws them in and the magic of the world her court wants to rebuild makes it impossible to leave.

Overall: 5/5

Sappy, probably, but the quote “The world will be saved and remade by the dreamers” is particularly powerful in this book. Aelin and her court don’t always look like dreamers because of the raw power that they wield, but anyone who gets to know them can see the heart beneath.
