Review:

Myth: 4/5

First, I will acknowledge that I am likely overly hard on this book because I can’t believe I’ve been ripped away from Aelin’s story. Of course, this is an important part of the story, and it definitely serves to push the epic story to an even larger stage, but after the cliff hanger in Empire of Storms, I’m still sitting here stewing about what is up next for Aelin.

One last thought, does Chaol need this big of a redemption arc? I like this story for what it does for Nesryn and you can’t help but fall for Yrene’s determination and character growth, sometimes, oftentimes, I still shake my head at Chaol.

Anyway, critical Throne of Glass plot points are definitely unearthed in this installment, and Sarah J Maas could make a story about anyone tug at your heart strings, so, worth it in the end? Yes.

Magic: 4/5

I do think that going to the southern continent and exploring the histories of this empire help to build the scale of the battle being fought. The secrets and histories found only add to both the terror and hope that Empire of Storms has filled us with.

Overall: 4/5

It’s definitely an interesting zig when you thought she would zag as far as where this story takes us, but it’s an essential part of the Throne of Glass story, continuing to highlight the hope for a better world the Aelin wants to build.
