Review:

Myth: 5/5

This story was stellar and quite unlike other magical detective type books I have read. The main character thinks she has escaped her shady past as a black witch working for the magical enforcement agency Black Hat. After successfully hiding in a small town for the last 10 years, she is confronted by her ex-partner and his new partner. The twist is the reason she has hidden from Black Hat is to protect the existence of Colby, the unusual child who lives with her… and I won’t say anything else to prevent giving it away.

Magic: 5/5

A hidden supernatural world that relies on Black Hat to enforce its rules - even though it’s an organization that seems to trap people into working for it. Rue, our main character, has slowly transitioned from a black witch (who uses the pain and suffering of others to boost her power) to a white witch (who does not… and relies only on her weaker, natural powers). This makes her a target for other black witches who know that killing a white witch will give them an additional power boost AND all the bad guys she helped take down when she has the black magic mojo. So now she has another reason to stay in hiding in an attempt to stay alive… and her ability to lean on her reputation is about to dissolve when she gets roped back into working for Black Hat, and others can see firsthand that she’s now a white witch…

Overall: 5/5

I’m really excited about this series. It’s a new take on a classic urban fantasy genre and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
