Review:

Myth: 5/5

Another dangerous case that needs Rue and Colby to join Clay and Asa to investigate black witch tendencies. The writing and plot here stellar, again, and it’s hard to put the book down while reading! The one thing we get a lot of here that was missing from the first book is Rue’s regret that she doesn’t know how to live life as a white witch - and that she’s just copying others behaviors until the kindness becomes natural to her. That doesn’t quite ring true since we’ve already seen her kindness towards Clay, her sense of responsibility towards the shop girls, the lengths she will go to to protect Colby and her layer of guilt towards putting everyone she comes to contact with in the town in danger. It just no longer rings true that she doesn’t know how to be “nice”.

Magic: 3.5/5

Not too much “new” magic is introduced in this second book, but we learn a lot more about Rue and Asa’s pasts and what makes each of them both tick. Their “mating dance” is hilarious as we see them take one step forward, sideways, and back when they are interrupted by Colby or Clay. It’s tantalizing while staying mostly PG 13.
