Though the stage is set, and we know that this book must be the final showdown, there are plenty of new and unexpected arrivals to this story. Enter the Russian Imperium and job escalation with her role with the Warden of Texas, but nothing can phase Catalina. She’s grown into her role as Prime of House Baylor and she owns it. With Alessandro at her side, they are a powerhouse team taking on the magical Houses of Houston and beyond.

Ilona Andrews is phenomenal at the magic build, even with their long series’ they’re great at giving you “just a little bit more” in each installment. So I was not surprised, but delighted anyway with the continued builds on Catalina’s magic and her heritage.
Overall: 4/5
A satisfying conclusion to Catalina and Alessandro’s story. The dose of family love and surprises we’ve come to expect from the Baylor family, plus plenty of action. Catalina and Alessandro are a delight as they fight for the life that they want.
