Review:

Myth: 4/5

First, this book filled in a lot of holes regarding the Baylor house leadership, for which I am grateful. There were a few things in the transition story from Nevada to Catalina that just didn’t quite fit with the characters we’ve grown to love. Of course, all was not as it seemed and our clever PI sorted it out. Whew.

Now onto the good stuff. I was a little unsure at the end of the last book, but all I needed to do was have faith that our authors would bring Catalina through her heartbreak to be a bit of a badass. Our teen heartthrob Alessandro, thankfully also matures. This was driven through his own story, but also was a requirement to come back into Catalina’s life.

Magic: 4/5

One of my favorite steampunk story lines is the mechanical devices that become sentient. It throws just a dash of science fiction into our urban fantasy world. Somehow Ilona Andrews found a perfect way to include this type of story into the Houston House world. They did it with ease, and it made for an action packed storyline propelling us into new ideas of magic, even within the boundaries of the established House world.

Overall: 4/5

I still have to say that Catalina and Alessandro aren’t Nevada and Connor, sigh. They do however find their footing in this second novel.
