Review:

Myth 3.5/5

I’m not normally a fan of short story collections, but this was better than I expected.  The nested format worked really well since each short story covered a specific moment in Simon’s time training at the Shadowhunter Academy, and also featured a special character who shared their own short story or lecture.

Isabelle, Isabelle, Isabelle... too much Izzy. I don’t remember he being such a thing in the mortal instruments series but maybe that’s bc it was never from Simon’s POV

(But maybe also bc I *gasp* preferred tv Isabelle.)

I also think it covers the time between the Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices series, and slowly introduces you to the background of The Dark Artifices.

The best short stories were about Will, Jem and Tessa, because I had just finished The Infernal Devices series and was craving more of that particular trio!

Magic 3/5

Classic shadowhunter world, but with less fighting and just a bit of magic. The one short story I liked least had the most magical involvement - the magic of the parabatai ceremony - but overall it was the same magical world.

Overall: 3.5/5

It’s a good collection of short stories to tide you over between gut-wrenchingly emotional series cliffhangers.
