Review:

Myth: 5/5

This was a perfect second installment. Poppy and Casteel are on shaky ground, obviously, but their passion is undeniable. Their story moves forward with the perfect amount of fire and ice in their interactions. While Poppy knows that Casteel is her best hope of getting what she wants, her heart is at risk and she can only deny that fact so long before she has to make some decisions.

Poppy grows immensely as a character in this book. She was already changing, but with her veil removed, she continues to cast off the character of the maiden. She takes time to figure out who she is and what she’s about. She must build her voice, she’s proven that she has one with Hawke, but can she prove it with Casteel and his people?

Magic: 5/5

Poppy has gone through major trauma, but as part of that traumatic night, the craven attack that left her scarred, she’s blocked out most of the memories. Bit by bit her mind fills in the gaps. Bit by bit she finds new powers that don’t fit in with the Atlantean’s hypothesis about her origins. I loved this, so much unknown and in this world of Atlanteans, Gods and Ascended anything is possible.

Overall: 5/5

Just when we thought the story couldn’t build any further, it skyrockets higher than the Rises that protect the Ascended’s cities. April can’t come soon enough.
