Best Fairy Tale Retellings

Give me ALL the fairy tale retellings. I love a new spin on a classic, and even retellings that introduce me to a fairy tale that I’m not really familiar with. Here are a few of my faves.

Little Thieves by Margaret Owen - This is a retelling of Goose Girl, which I was unfamiliar with, but turns out it’s another Grimm fairy tale. Little Thieves is a delight with heist vibes all over the place, clever characters and a romantic subplot filled with mistrust and insecurity. I loved every second of it.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas - A Peter Pan retelling filled with self discovery, heartbreak and lots of spooky pacific northwest vibes. Lots of YA pining and perfect ‘only one bed’ moments, buckle up for this emotional roller coaster.

This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron - At it’s heart this is a Secret Garden retelling, but I have to tell you that it does not stop there! Throw in a dash of poison ivy and even a little greek mythology for good measure making this YA fantasy wholly unique.

A Dance with The Fae Prince by Elise Kova - This also has a few retellings tossed in, but the most prevalent is Cinderella. I can’t help but love a good Cinderella retelling and this one goes above and beyond. The twist on the glass slipper is my new fave.

Desperate Measures by Katee Robert - The Wicked Villains series is a wild ride, these are definitely dark romances but I thought it was such a unique idea to take the villains of classic fairy tales and give them their own re-imaginings. Jasmine and Jafar star in Desperate Measures and if you haven’t ready Katee Robert before, check the content warnings. She writes heavy and taboo heat, but it’s such a unique twist on fairy tale retellings.
