Top 5 of 2020

Top 5 of 2020

  1. Crescent City - I read this in March, a few weeks into lockdown when I really didn’t know what to do with myself. It was the perfect escape. It reminded me that I had an escape in my apartment even if I couldn’t travel this year. You may even noticed it got me back to writing book reviews. Sarah J Maas’s world and characters were so awesome that I just wanted to tell others about them and then start reading any other fantasy book that I could find.

  2. Of Blood and Ash - I can not believe that I’ve waited so long to read my first Jennifer L. Armentrout book. That is all.

  3. Archangel’s Blade - I read the entire Guild Hunter series this year, and while I loved many of the books, Archangel’s Blade, book 4 was when I knew this series was going to be a favorite of mine. When you can take the enforcer character, the one that everyone’s scared of, even in comparison to the power of an Archangel, and throw him into the spotlight as the romantic lead with a tragic past, I’m a goner.

  4. Shadow Wand - I’ve enjoyed the previous Black Witch Chronicle books, but Shadow Wand put this series on a different level for me. Without too many spoilers, Elloren’s complicated relationship with Lucas Grey was everything. And it could only be made more perfect by the fact that as soon as you start to root for them, you’re thrown the ultimate curveball and left desperately waiting for Demon Tide.

  5. A Court of Mist and Fury - I did some re-reading this year. I rarely re-read because I usually think of my long, undiscovered TBR list and get overwhelmed. This year, I seemed to have so much time to read, due to lack of other options that I revisited a few old favorites and I think I’ll continue to do so. Anyway, the second book of A Court of Thorns and Roses is a masterpiece. Feyre takes such a journey from the beginning to end of this book. She learns that she is a force to be reckoned with instead of a trophy to be displayed. She has the time and freedom to learn this about herself through the machinations of the ever swoon-worthy Rhysand. We barely get a glimpse of Rhysand’s character in A Court of Thorns and Roses, but his perfection as Feyre’s mate is on full display in A Court of Mist and Fury.
