Book three in the Night Prince series continues to follow the character Vlad from Frost’s Night Huntress and his new wife Leila. They of course couldn’t have been married and sailed off into the sunset. After centuries of being the most ruthless vampire, Vlad has to deal with his enemies leveraging his love for Leila as a weakness.
Myth: 3/5
This was a rough story for Leila. She’s a new vampire, she’s a new wife, she’s now target number one for all of Vlad’s enemies (since he hasn’t had a “weakness” in hundreds of years). While justified at times, it’s a lot of overprotectiveness and guilt.
Magic: 3/5
We get more of a glimpse of this toward magic building in the second half of the book. I’m excited to see where this goes as we didn’t really get a lot of the “rules” mapped out in this book. I think there is a lot more to come on this though, so I’m content to wait to see what happens.
Overall: 3/5
I appreciated that we were setting up for the series' conclusion story, but it is hard to go from “this is the big bad” to “oh wait, there’s another bigger bad.”
