Review:

Myth: 2.5/5

I can convince myself of the need for this installment, I just didn’t like it that much. While Hard Bitten got to show off Merit on her own as Sentinel, operating successfully solo, and asking for help when needed, Drink Deep left her floundering. I get it, but she just seemed off her game even after she decided to get back to it.

While readers will ultimately get what they wanted, it’s hard earned. There was also a heavy dose of House and friendship drama that Merit once seemed equipped to handle, and she was very unsure of herself. It was a lot, and not in the “emotional roller coaster, hate love relationship with the author” kind of way.

Magic: 3/5

We got a bit more insight into a few other supernaturals in this book. We got into the sorcerers and fae, though both are still surface level, it’s definitely setting up for more exploration of the other supernatural in the next installment.

Overall: 3/5

A story that gives you a lot of drama and little character growth, maybe some character regression. Much of it is to be expected in the aftermath of Hard Bitten, but that didn’t mean it’s not grating. It’s still entertaining, and I think I’m about to get the book I’ve always dreamed of, so I can’t stop now.
