Review:

Myth: 3/5

Hard Bitten gives Merit a little room to spread her wings. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy when she and the green eyed Ethan Sullivan team up to solve a problem, but it’s fun to see her strike out and own her own case. It also gets to show off Ethan’s growth as he puts his faith and trust in his Sentinel.

The problem Merit is working to solve was a little too convenient for me, and I have to note that while Ethan gets to display his trust in Merit, Merit fails that test miserably (I don’t want to get into spoilers, but this isn’t about their relationship, he deserves all that shade thrown. It’s about a reveal towards the end of the story).

Magic: 3/5

This story is a culmination of a few threads from prior books, so while satisfying conclusions in some ways, it doesn’t really build on the magical world of Chicago all too much.

Overall: 3/5

A quick read that keeps the ‘will they won’t they’ energy high as Merit takes charge in her position as Sentinel. I’ve read other reviews on this book and boy did people get angry at the end of this one, but with over a dozen books in the series I’m willing to bet it turns out ok.
