Review:

Myth: 4/5

Elena is finally back in New York. She’s revealing herself to the world as both an Angel Made and the Archangel Raphael’s consort.

A lot of ground is covered in this book. Elena’s re-entry into guild jobs, just as too many vampires seem to be blood lusting in too organized a way. It also covers Elena’s re-entry to her family. Obviously they’ve not been a real family since the deaths of her sisters, but her dad and step mom request her help with a family matter. I enjoy (though that’s probably not the right word) Elena’s family backstory. It shows two very different paths of humans coping with tragedy. It also seems that there are a lot more layers to peel back with Elena’s father.

As vampires inexplicably blood lust and natural disasters terrorize the planet, this can only mean that an ancient one is waking. Raphael’s mother, older and more powerful than Lijuan, is coming out of sleep. The question on everyone’s mind being, will she be sane when she wakes.

Magic: 3.5/5

The biggest problem Elena still faces is vertical takeoff. She’s improving daily at everything else, but taking off from the ground is completely beyond her reach. It’s kind of the one thing she still needs to be a badass angel. It’s got to be a little awkward to have to take the elevator to the top of the building in order to fly away.

Overall: 4/5

I enjoyed it, especially some of the more normal human aspects to it, like starting to make a home with Raphael. I’m looking forward to seeing what complexities Raphael’s mother will bring to the cadre.
