Especially after Archangel’s Storm, I’ve been dying for Viper’s story, and Singh finally delivered.
Viper is unique, like all of Raphael’s seven. He’s like Naasir in some ways, a vampire that is not a vampire, or a vampire but more. He is beautiful and deadly, with movements and poisonous powers of the Archangel who Made him. He’s finally found someone who not only accepts his otherness, but also knows what it is to possess it herself.
Holly, unwillingly Made by Uram in the first book, has battled through many demons. She’s starting to be able to forge a life for herself, albeit one not of her choosing. Her otherness still causes the Tower a lot of stress. How will Uram’s blood impact her long term? This isn’t as easy as a standard vampire contract, since she is not a standard vampire. She’s made great progress in self control, but she needs to learn not just to control her otherness but to use it, and there is only one man right for that job.
Holly and Viper team up to uncover the mysteries left to Holly by Uram. They are all snipes and banter and the exact match to get under the other’s skin.

Uram’s legacy in Holly is certainly other. Holly, strong and independent is trying to handle the otherness herself, thinking no one could possibly understand. In fact, if they did understand, they’d have to kill her, because the threat of what was happening to her was too great a risk.

I love how the side character stories give unique characters their time to shine, while also intertwining with the overarching plotline. While Elena and Raphael were in Morocco, Viper and Holly unravel this mystery bringing everyone back to New York with a little more understanding of the impacts of the Cascade.
