Hunting Fiends contains overlap with Druid Vices and Vodka, and though I haven’t read it yet, I also suspect that it overlaps with Lost Talismans and a Tequila. Robin and Zylas’s story intersects with Tori’s actions in the first and Ezra’s in the latter.

Robin and Zylas continue to track Claude to get back the missing pieces of Robin’s family grimoire and ultimately figure out what he is after. Their investigation has tied him to demon-blood enhanced vampires and gollums and they’re still not sure what he really wants.

We get a heavy dose of the slow burn romance in this book. Robin is translating her ancestor’s notes and we see a story very similar to her own. A woman who has given her heart to her demon. Robin desperately wants to know if her ancestor made the right choice, but of course, Robin ultimately needs to make her decision for herself.

Magic:4/5

Robin and Zylas’s magic is directly tied to their trust in each other. The more they trust, the more they can accomplish together, forging a new magic that isn’t only demon or only arcana, but something in between. This will involve Robin having to explain why she turns red every time that Zylas get’s exploratory hands.

Overall:4/5

Though some parts of the story are a little repetitive (after just having read Druid Vices), I enjoy switching between Robin and Tori’s storylines. They are very different characters, but both sort of stumbled into magic and are really just trying to figure it out enough to keep those they love alive.
