Goodreads synopsis

Myth:4/5

We finally get to learn what Ezra’s deal is. That enough is worth the book.

Tori finds herself with a choice. This book is another step in Tori’s leap into the magical world. She’s always had outs. First, she didn’t have to throw herself into every problem that her friends faced, second she didn’t have to get herself magically classified, but even after all that, she still had a chance to live a normal guild life. She wouldn’t be our heroine if she hadn’t made those choices, and that’s why it’s no surprise that she’s pushed herself to the point of no return.

Ezra’s character is front and center in this story as we learn his secret and the lengths his friends have gone to in order to preserve and protect it.

Magic: 4/5

We also get a crash course in the demon class. Hunting an unbound demon is the perfect excuse to give us all the fundamentals we need to understand about the world of demon binding. What’s legal, what’s illegal and what’s most dangerous.

Overall: 4/5

Tori doesn’t disappoint. And she faces some hard self-truths in this book. She found ways to cope with her family situation when she was young, but that means that she's great at not dealing. Her willful ignorance will only get her so far with her new friendships. This is the book where she has to shed another layer of comfort.
