Tori made some tough choices around Christmas when she finally acknowledged that Ezra was more than a friend. Let’s say that this book is about paying the piper. She chose for Ezra to live over giving him and the boys a chance to deem him “too dangerous,” she gave him time.

But she also lied to him, and went behind his back with his worst nightmare and left open a door for all of his worst fears to come true. Dramatic, right?

Well Tori owns her decision, like we knew she would, but she also faces the potential consequences, though we’re all happy that they are fairly short-lived.

We got a few glimpses into Ezra’s mind in this book, short chapters that show his overlap with the Demonized series, and also help get his butt in gear to fight for survival.

Magic:4/5

Tori is still reeling from losing all of her magic. Would she do it again, of course, but she’s feeling very human, and pretty useless. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to have her very human brother along for part of the ride in this one. I thought it helped show that the choices she’s made have made her part of the magical world, not necessarily just the magic items she had collected.

Then of course there is Ezra. Ezra and his demon team up in a way that we’ve only started to glimpse through Robin and Zylas. But this is more, two magics in the same body, instead of two bodies sharing magics.

Kind of what we’ve been waiting for from Ezra. Still pretty worried about what Kai is up to, but I guess we’ll have to wait until October to find that one out.
